The invention pertains to a device for holding a stick composed of a spreadable substance, such as a glue or wax stick or the like, which device consists essentially of a case (1) that is open on one side and an element (3) that cooperates with the stick, with hand-operated means for varying the distance between the edge of the open side of the case (1) and the stick element, such that the case can always be refilled with a packaged or unpackaged stick.
