<p>A method for preparing difunctional compounds, e.g. diols, having high enantiomeric purity (compound If) from alpha -hydroxycarboxylic acid esters (compound Id) in an anhydrous medium by a) reducing compound (Id) into compound (If) in an organic solvent medium; b) adding to the reaction medium at least one coreagent which is substituted by at least one and preferably at least two XH or YH radicals, can move compound (If) in the intermediate from a), and has a higher boiling point at normal atmospheric pressure than compound (If); and c) directly distilling the reaction medium to recover said compound (If). The coreagent is pyrocatechol, hydride, NaBH4. The method may be used to prepare an intermediate for chiral synthesis.</p> |
