An endoscopic gripper comprises a guide tube (1) with an operating device (2) arranged on the proximal end and a pair of gripping jaws located on the distal end and connected in articulated fashion to one another in such a way that opening and closing of the gripping jaws (4) is made possible via tension and compression means. The gripping jaws (4) are each formed from segments and the segments are connected to one another via joints such that pivoting of the individual segments relative to one another is made possible between an open state guaranteeing usability of the gripper and a collapsed state. The segments can be opened on the surgical object by an additional tension means (28) or by a compression means after positioning of the gripper. <IMAGE>
