Hip joint support

The hip joint support consists of a rod (1) which can support a load equivalent to the maximum load on a patient's leg, connected at one end to the femur and at the other via a pviot (17,18) to the pelvic bone. The connection between the rod and femur is in the form of a shank (2) which is fitted into the femur in line with the axis of its diaphysis and set at an angle to the rod equal to that of the femur neck/diaphysis angle. - The length of the shank (2) inserted into the femur is equivalent to hold the length of the patient's femur, and it is fixed in place by a threaded surface. The shank is connected to the rod by a threaded joint which allows their positions to be adjusted. The pivot (17,18) can be in the form of a ball-and-socket joint or a two-way hinge.
