A telescopic lantern comprises a housing (10) and a tubular transparent glass cover (30) which is arranged such that it can be moved like a telescope within the housing (10) between an extended and a withdrawn position. The glass cover (30) has upper and lower rings (31, 32) which are made of a high-temperature resistant thermoplastic and which are fastened to the transparent glass cover (30) by means of a thixotropic paste. A light source (13) within the glass cover (30) is not restricted by the glass cover (30). By means of interacting elements of the lower ring (32) and the inner surface of the housing (10), the glass cover (30) can optionally be extended, withdrawn, locked to the housing (10) or removed from the housing (10). <IMAGE>
