Member (118) of polymethylmethacrylate, polysulfone or a like material with a plurality of holes (120) arranged in a predetermined, geometrical configuration. The holes are derived through a procedure of repetitive drawing. Prior to the first drawing operation, a workpiece of base material is provided which has a plurality of holes therein. Each of the holes is filled with a material which is soluble in certain particular solvents, yet drawable along with the base material. The workpiece can be drawn to a reduced cross-sectional area such as a square, the reduced cross-sectional workpiece positioned with respect to each other and drawn again in further operations to a completed, fenestrated member. The member can be utilized as either a contact lens, an intracorneal inlay, an intraocular lens, a medical filter, or other applications requiring fenestrated structures. |
