An agitator ball mill for treating free-flowing material to be ground has, as grinding container, a housing (2a, 2b) which is divided into two horizontally and in which an annular-disc-shaped agitator (1) is arranged rotatably. From an inlet (17) for material to be ground, the material to be ground flows through an upper annular-disc-shaped grinding space (8a), an outer deflection zone (10) and a lower annular-disc-shaped grinding space (8b). Adjoining the lower grinding space (8b) radially inwardly is a deflection zone (11), in which the material to be ground is deflected with the grinding bodies to the upper grinding space (8a). In the region between the deflection zone (11) and the upper grinding space (8a), a branch duct (13) branches off radially inwardly to the separating space (14), via which a part flow of material to be ground flows to this separating space (14), while a further part flow of material to be ground passes to the upper grinding space (8a) together with the grinding bodies. <IMAGE>
