Illustrated and described is a sleeper (1) made of a castable material, preferably plastic, for a track for rail vehicles, having an upper side (2) on which at least one rail (20) can be fastened by way of its rail foot (21) by means of fastening means. According to the invention, the horizontal forces which arise during running operation are transmitted from the rail foot (21) directly into the sleeper (1), to be precise by virtue of the fact that a guiding means (22), at least partially embedded in the sleeper (1), is provided for each rail (20), the guiding means (22) has two guiding elements (23, 24) with guiding sections (25, 26) projecting above the surface (2), and between which the rail foot can be arranged, and the guiding elements (23, 24) cooperate with the rail foot (21) in such a way that horizontal forces arising in the rail foot (21) are transmitted via the guiding elements (23, 24) into the sleeper (1) and the fastening means are substantially uninfluenced by the rising horizontal forces. <IMAGE>
