The switching architecture includes a cross network of input and output switching links crossing each other. The output switching links form a number of tree structures. Each tree structure has an upper buffering level contg. a number of intermediate storing buffers (34) for packets entering on the input links. The tree structure also has a lower buffering level with at least one output buffer (42). The lower buffering level is connected for receiving the content in at least two of the intermediate storing buffers of the upper buffering level. The output of the lowering buffering level forms an output of the output link. The connection between the output buffer and the intermediate storing buffers is via further intermediate storing buffers (36,38). |
