Because the low logic level of gate 78 may not be exactly zero, comparator 75 acting through amplifier 74 and transistor 70 may cause a small current to flow in resistor 71, and hence injector 8, when the input signal 76 is low. This may cause fuel leakage through the injector in a high-pressure direct injection system. To prevent this, comparator 83, which has an open-collector output, disables transistor 70 when input signal 76 is low. Monostable 77 and transistor 73 provide an initial high-current output.
