To avoid chatter the arm (1) of a wiper is provided with a support (4) which extends in its longitudinal direction, is held (5) only locally on the arm (1) and in the case of bending vibrations of the arm (1) generates frictional damping as a consequence of relative movements which then occur between said arm and the support (4) (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
