PURPOSE: To increase the probability of fusion of deuterium ion with He ion by allowing a Pd electrode to absorb deuterium ions through electrolysis in a chamber containing heavy water, and performing the fusion while the flow of andαandγparticles is directed toward the Pd electrode. CONSTITUTION: A 15-V battery 20 flows a current of approx. 1μA through a purge device 22, which can invert the polarity of the current either manually or automatically. The current flows from the purge device 22 into a Faraday shield 24 and further to a fusion cell 26 so that an electrolyzing process to produce deuterium ions is caused. The fusion cell 26 is fitted with a cell cover, two lugs for electric connections, and internally with heavy water, Pt positive electrode, and Pd negative electrode. Anαand aγradiation source 28, 30 inside the shield 24 make a tandem operation and emit radiations to the cell 26. Tandem radiations from a Co<60> and a Po<210> source 30, 28 exert good effect, and an increase in power of the fifth order of magnitude or more is made. The purge device 22 purges the Pd negative electrode for recovery, and the cell 26 is made able to be re-used.
