PURPOSE:To increase compressive strength of an affinity carrier in a packed state by forming the affinity carrier from cellulose particles having each specified value of particle size in the wet state, crystallinity measured by X-ray diffraction method, and total volume of pores having pore sizes within a specified range, etc. CONSTITUTION:After neutralizing fine particles of coagulated viscose contg. 5-60wt.% (expressed in terms of cellulose) cellulose xanthate with an acid, generated fine cellulose particles are separated from mother liquid and used as the affinity carrier. The carrier consists of spherical or elliptical particles having <=500mum particle size in the wet state and 5-45% crystallinity measured by the X-ray diffraction method. Further, the particles dried at critical point have the maximum pore volume in the region between 0.006-1mum pore size measured by a mercury porosimeter method, wherein the total pore volume in the same region is at least 0.05 milliliter/g. |
