A small size microstrip antenna (100) useful in portable electric devices including pagers, telephones, and portable computers. The microstrip antenna (100) includes a ground plane layer (112), a dielectric layer (114), and a radiating patch (116) that is short circuited to the ground plane layer (112) along a portion of one of its edges. The antenna can fit within a standard PCMCIA slot and portable computers, and is also useful in stand alone computers. Furthermore, the small size of the antenna allows orientation within a computer housing to optimize the radiation from the antenna. |
