PURPOSE:To provide an alkaline secondary battery having improved performance such as a high utilizing rate of high rate discharge, a high capacity holding rate, and a long cycle lifetime without short-circuiting in manufacturing the battery by applying a plasma treatment to a polyolefine fiber sheet under a specific condition, and using the fiber sheet as a separator, to which a hydrophilic treatment is applied without deteriorating characteristics such as strength of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:At least a part of constituting fiber such as a polyolefine fiber sheet is subjected to a plasma treatment under a condition of a gas pressure of 1.3Pa-1.3kPa in such a manner that a product of a high frequency output treating density by a treating time becomes 0.1-50W.sec/cm<2>, followed by a hydrophilic treatment, thus obtaining a polyolefine fiber sheet, to which a hydrophilic property of a pure water absorbing speed of 10mm or more in two minutes is applied. The fiber sheet is used as a separator 3, which is interposed between a positive electrode 1 and a negative electrode 2 and spirally wound, thereby obtaining a spiral electrode body 4. The electrode body 4 is inserted into a battery case 5 having an insulator 13 at the bottom thereof and another insulator 14 is disposed at the upper portion thereof. |
