PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal display element which is capable of making display with a high contrast and does not require a back light and polarizing plate. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display element has two sheets of transparent substrates 1, 1 which have transparent electrode layers, a light control layer 4 which is a light control layer supported between these substrates 1, 1 and consists of a liquid crystal material and transparent solid material, multilayered light reflection increase layers 2 which are the light reflection increase layers formed on the substrate surface not in contact with the light control layer 4 of the one substrate 1 and are formed by laminating at least >=2 kinds of light transmittable media varying in refractive index and a light absorption layer provided on the outer side of the light reflection increase layers 2. |
