<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the picture processing method capable of obtaining a binary picture in which a halftone picture and an edge of a character picture are reproduced in an excellent way when the binary picture magnified from gradation data with low resolution is generated. CONSTITUTION:Different arithmetic operation sections 2, 3 calculate a difference of frightness in the longitudinal direction and lateral direction based on the frightness of a picture element adjacent a processing picture element of an original picture 1. A frightness gradient is detected from a difference of the calculated frightness and when the frightness gradient is smaller than a threshold level, it is discriminated that a picture is a halftone picture and nXm sets of binarized picture elements in response to the frightness of the processing picture elements are generated by binarized halftone processing. When the frightness gradient is larger than a threshold level, the direction of the frightness gradient is detected and picture elements of 0s or 1s of a number in response to the frightness of processing picture elements are arranged to generate nXm sets of binarized picture elements. A binary picture 5 is generated by the generated binarized picture elements.</p> |
