PURPOSE:To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery with high voltage, high energy density, high charge/discharge performance, and long cycle life. CONSTITUTION:In a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery at least comprising a negative electrode, a positive electrode, and a lithium ion conductive nonaqueous electrolyte, a lithium-containing vanadium composite oxide represented by LixMyVzO2 (wherein x>0, M is an element 13th group or 14th group in the periodic table revised in 1989, based on the inorganic chemistry normenclature of IUPAC, y>=0, and 0.7<=y+z<=1.3.) is used as a negative active material. The secondary battery with low, less-noble negative active material potential, high charge/discharge capacity of the negative active material in the less-noble potential region vs. lithium reference electrode, high voltage, high energy density, high current charge/discharge performance, high overcharge/ overdischarge resistance, and long cycle life can be obtained. |
