ZIGZAG FOLDING DEVICE FOR USE IN PRINTING MACHINE

PURPOSE:To reduce operators' work and to secure safety by achieving full automatic operation. CONSTITUTION:A continuous paper sheet P provided with folding portions at equal intervals is guided via feed rollers 8, 8a disposed in a pendulum arm 7 and is folded by a folding device A which can automatically set the length and width of each spiral body 10-10a. A printing drive system is provided with a pulse generator to detect the number of folds of the folded paper sheet and a signal of the generator is sent to a cutting command portion to operate an air cylinder 32 so as to momentarily insert an edge body 36 near one end of the folded paper sheet and to lower the edge body by means of the spiral shaft 53 of a conveyor C and a spiral shaft on the side of a cutting device B, and when the folds reach a predetermined number the edge body 36 is advanced using a motor 35 to cut the paper sheet. During the cutting the block of the folded paper sheet is raised by means of a cylinder 52 via a roller 45 and the folded paper sheet is kept horizontal and cut while the remaining folded paper sheet is held by the edge body 36 which has cut the sheet.
