METHOD FOR DECREASING MEMORY REQUIREMENT FOR RASTER GENERATOR AND PRINTER IN PRINTER

PURPOSE: To obtain the method and a device which are so improved as to reduce the demand for the memory of a page printer. CONSTITUTION: The page printer uses another representation for print data in many lateral thin and long parts constituting a page. Page description language input is converted to intermediate display list format. Namely, it is classified into display commands relating to respective thin and long parts. When the display list representation of data satisfies a memory assigned for its storage in the input, one or plural thin and long parts are converted from the display list format to raster format and compressed by using wasteless compression algorithm. When the storage of the compressed thin and long parts exceeds the usable memory, the raster data are further compressed by using wasteful compression algorithm.
