There is described a substrate for sustaining vegetation on artificial planes, in particular roofs, which comprises skeleton substances and humus substances, the skeleton substances being composed exclusively of open-celled, crushed inorganic recycling and/or waste materials, and the humus substances being composed exclusively of composted organic recycling and/or waste materials.
