APPARATUS FOR DETECTING ABNORMALITY IN OPERATION OF HEAD CARRIAGE OF PRINTER

PURPOSE:To detect the abnormality in the operation of a head carriage of a printer. CONSTITUTION:Sensors 208 and 216 are set on the moving route of a head carriage 205 to sense when the head carriage 205 passes. Before the printer starts operating, the head carriage 205 is moved, and the position of the head carriage 205 when the sensors 208 and 216 respond is stored as the number of pulses from a home position. The number of pulses is the number of pulses generated from a pulse generating device operating in association with a motor moving the head carriage or the number of pulses input to a stepping motor. When the position of the head carriage 205 in subsequent operations when the sensors 208 and 216 respond is compared with the stored value and detected to be different from the stored value, it is judged as abnormal.
