PURPOSE:To prevent faulty developing by accurately detecting the insufficiency of toner. CONSTITUTION:This developing device is provided with a developing unit 11 having a toner carrier 14 developing an electrostatic latent image on an electrostatic latent image carrier by supplying one-component toner to the electrostatic latent image carrier, a toner storage part 12 which is installed on the side part of the developing unit 11 and where the one-component toner is stored, a toner carrying and supplying member 17 carrying the toner from the storage part 12 to an opposite side to the storage part 12 with respect to the longitudinal direction of the toner carrier 14 and supplying it to the toner carrier 14, and a toner carrying and recovering member 18 carrying and recovering the excess toner in the developing unit 11 to the storage part 12 from the opposite side to the storage part 12 with respect to the longitudinal direction of the toner carrier 14. It is also provided with a detecting member 19 installed on an opposite side to the storage part 12 with respect to the longitudinal direction of the member 17 and detecting the amount of the toner carried by the member 17. |
