Centreboard, which can be filled with water, as trimming ballast for sailing yachts

A yacht which is luffing has a certain angle of heel depending on wind strength, trimming crew, and the keel weight. This has an adverse effect on the speed, and furthermore a trimming crew can only be used to a limited extent. The centreboard is intended to create a windward ballast which reduces the heeling of the sailing yacht, can be used constantly and is independent of the number of crew members, so that a higher speed of the yacht is made possible. In small sailing yachts, one centreboard each is mounted on the port and starboard side; in larger yachts, two or more centreboards each are mounted. Each centreboard is pivotable in all directions and it can be extended and filled gradually with water. The function of the centreboards is based on the principle of a crew trimming on the trapeze. The centreboard is suitable for keel boats, cabin boats, cruisers, yachts and also for catamarans and trimarans for shorter and longer turns.
