摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent contamination of an electrode or a recording medium caused by ink particles generated when an electric current is applied or the application is suspended by making the timing of disconnecting an electrode on the deflection direction side of charged ink particles from a bias voltage generation means earlier than that of disconnecting the other electrode and thereby delaying a connection timing. CONSTITUTION:A movable contact 12a of a switch 12 is connected to a fixed contact 12b, and a movable contact 13a of a switch 13 to a fixed contact 13b. A bias voltage of -400V is applied to an electrode 8 and +400V to an electrode 9 and consequently the charging and deflection of ink particles having no relationship with a recording signal does not occur. If a single unit of recording is completed, a switch 12 is changed over. Application of a bias voltage to the electrode 8 is interrupted, resulting in a condition in which the +400V bias voltage is applied to only the electrode 9. If the switch 13 is reversed, connection of the electrodes 8, 9 is set to the particle status detection/ optimization process mode. Next the switch 13 is again reversed to return the connection of the electrodes 8, 9 to the recording mode, and thereby the movable contact 13a is allowed to be connected to the fixed contact 13b.
