PURPOSE: To degrade highly toxic halogenated org. compounds in gases contg. no SO2 by passing the gases in the presence of hydrogen peroxide over an inorg. solid contact catalyst after removing Caro's acid. CONSTITUTION: Highly toxic halogenated org. compounds, in particular polychlorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans, contained in gases contg. no SO2 are degraded. First, the gases are passed in the absence of Caro's acid, in the presence of hydroxide or compounds discharging hydroxide, over an inorg. solid catalyst comprising pyrogenic or precipitated silica or aluminum silicate. Thus, a residual content of below 0.1 ng TE/Nm<3> , which is the critical value, may be attained. |
