A method of controlling the start of the paper travel and the printing process in a printing machine provided with an electrically operated drier wherein the drive for the paper travel and printing process is switched on after the drier, which has already been switched on, has reached a condition representing optimum operating conditions. The optimum operating condition may simply be the temperature that the drier has reached or, alternatively, it may be determined as a function of various parameters forming part of the printing process.
