PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal display device which has small variation in display quality due to a visual angle and is excellent in what is called visual angle characteristics. CONSTITUTION:The TN type liquid crystal display device is constituted by arranging a couple of phase difference plates 16 and 17, combined so that the phase difference on the front becomes 0, between one polarizing plate and a TN type liquid crystal cell 10 or between both the polarizing plates and liquid crystal cell at an optimum angle so that an optimum phase difference value can be obtained. Therefore, the TN type liquid crystal display device gives no variation in phase difference on the front and gives a phase difference in a direction wherein a phase difference given by the liquid crystal cell 10 is canceled to oblique incident light, so the difference between optical characteristics on the front and optical characteristics of oblique incidence is reduced to improve the visual angle characteristics. |
