PURPOSE:To provide the small-sized, high-reliability optical isolator which prevents an adhesive, used to fix a magnet and an optical element, from deforming, does not slant the optical element from its initial position to the magnet even in high-temperature, high-humidity environment, and has no decrease in the coupling efficiency of an LD module. CONSTITUTION:The quadrangular prism optical element 10 consisting of a Faraday rotating element, a polarizer, and an analyzer is inserted into a nearly square-sectioned cavity 11 formed in the magnet 5 and the adhesive is charged in four gaps formed of the four surfaces of the optical element 10 which are parallel to the optical axis and the opposite wall surfaces of the cavity 11 in the magnet 5 to fix the magnet 5 and optical element 10. An adhesive layer in at least one of the four gaps is <=10mum thick.
