PURPOSE:To more precisely control weight-loss processing ratio and to obtain a product having excellent handle in a method of weight-loss processing of woven or knit fabric containing polyester yarn. CONSTITUTION:Concentration of caustic soda in a treating tank in which a product is fed is set at a fixed optimum concentration. To maintain concentration during reaction of hydrolysis always constant, concentration of caustic soda is continuously measured and caustic soda is successively supplied to retain the concentration in an allowable range of deviation. At a point of time when the amount of caustic soda supplied is coincident with a necessary amount of caustic soda calculated from the amount of woven or knit fabric fed and the target weight-loss ratio, supply of caustic soda is stopped and processing is completed. The woven or knit fabric can be subjected to weight-loss processing in a preferably handle by treatment in the optimum concentration in a short time and the treating solution is properly reused.
