The invention relates to a system sectioning point for contact lines for electrical railways, which sectioning point mechanically connects adjoining sections of contact line of different current and/or voltage systems but isolates them in terms of potential and, using short-circuit triggering systems in earthed insulated sections, ensures that the adjacent section switches of the systems are triggered, in particular in order to provide protection when vehicles travel past with inadvertently raised current collectors. In order to prevent either damage occurring as a result of unacceptable connection of the two current systems via the vehicle or damage to the vehicle itself, it is proposed according to the invention that a voltage monitoring system (7 and 7') with triggering which is earlier in spatial and/or temporal terms should be connected upstream of the respective short-circuit triggering system (8 and 8') in the earthing section (E and E'). Here, an auxiliary contact line (3) which is arranged in the region of the sectioning point near to the voltage-conducting main contact line (1) and is neutral during normal operation is expediently used, said auxiliary contact line (3) being also travelled over by the current collector of a tractive unit and having voltage applied to it in certain sections by shunting, which can be detected at an early point by the voltage monitoring system (7 and 7'). <IMAGE>
