The invention relates to a multiway plug socket system having units which can be plugged together, forming a mechanical and electrical connection, to produce a multiway plug socket. The invention creates a multiway plug socket system having a new, advantageous type of plug connection between the units. According to the invention, units are provided which have insertion slots which are open on at least two sides and into which plug contacts, which project from another unit, can be inserted from the side.
