Vertically perforated lightweight brick

A description is given of a vertically perforated lightweight brick (1), of which the perforation pattern makes it possible to achieve, with comparable compressive strength, a considerably higher heat-insulating and sound-insulating capacity. The invention proposes hexagonal honeycomb perforations with honeycomb webs (6) of a thickness of not more than approximately 4 mm and a perforation percentage, in the region of the honeycomb structure, of at least approximately 55%. The perforation pattern is preferably arranged such that some of the honeycomb webs (6) are located perpendicularly with respect to the visible surfaces (5) of the brick. By using a high percentage of a fibrous pore-forming agent, the bulk density of the body is not more than approximately 1.5 kg/dm<3>. Apart from two grooves (3) and tongues (4) in the vicinity of the side walls, the abutment surfaces are designed symmetrically with respect to the parting plane, as a result of which the honeycomb pattern continues virtually unchanged beyond the abutment region. <IMAGE>
