PURPOSE:To provide a DNA fragment containing a promoter controlling the transcription of the gluconic acid operon of Bacillus subtilis, and a gluconic acid operon controlled by the above promoter and having controlled transcription by catabolite repression. CONSTITUTION:It has been sound that the gluconic acid operon participating in the assimilation of inexpensive gluconic acid available easily from glucose can be induced quickly by the addition of gluconic acid. The promoter controlling the expression of the operon and the operon connected to the promoter were separated as a DNA fragment, and the base sequence was determined. The DNA contains 4,487 bases starting from the sequence shown in the figure. |
