PURPOSE:To realize excellent gradation expression by compensating fluctuation caused by the difference of a laser beam diameter, to be exact, the difference of potential distribution caused by the difference of the laser beam diameter. CONSTITUTION:This controller is provided with a means for forming a charge latent image having the potential distribution by exposing the surface of a photosensitive body with a laser beam, a means for detecting and storing the potential distribution, a means for obtaining peak light quantity corresponding to peak potential in the potential distribution by referring to a light decay curve LDC by the laser beam being the reference of the photosensitive body, a means for obtaining mesial potential corresponding to the mesial light quantity of the peak light quantity by referring to the light decay curve LDC, and a means for setting a distance between the mesial potentials by referring to the potential distribution as the beam diameter. The table group of gradation correction data corresponding to the beam diameter detected by a beam diameter detection device is selected, and at the time of AIDC, the gradation correction table is selected from the selected table group. |
