OBJECT-ORIENTED SEGMENTATION PROCESS OF STEREOSCOPIC IMAGES OR IMAGE SEQUENCES

According to the disclosed process, at first the edges in an image are detected by means of gradient operators, then a gradient image is generated. An initial object segmentation is then generated on the basis of said gradient image by means of an initial disparity evaluation. An improved disparity evaluation is then carried out on the basis of the image and of the initial object segmentation. A series of improved object segmentations is then generated by improved alternating, iterative disparity evaluations from object segmentations, so as to generate improved object segmentations from said disparity evaluations. The advantage of this process is that the individual disparity evaluations and object segmentations generated during the described iterative process mutually improve each other. A particularly reliable object segmentation and a particularly reliable disparity evaluation are thus possible.
