PURPOSE:To provide a new compound useful as a color developer for pressure- sensitive and heat-sensitive recording materials. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound, 2-(3-methylanilino)-3-methyl-6- dimethylaminofluoran of formula I, which can be obtained, for example, by reaction between a benzophenone compound of formula II and a diphenylamine compound of formula III (R is H or lower alkyl) in the presence of a dehydrating condensation agent (e.g. conc. sulfuric acid) at 0-100 deg.C followed by treatment with an alkali (e.g. NaOH). Use of this compound in recording materials can realize excellent texture whiteness, texture preservability, developed color tone, color developing sensitivity and color-developed image preservability, etc. |
