The packaging apparatus consists of a pipe (1) which carries an axially gathered tubular net stock on its outer circumference. A conveyor band (12) extends through the pipe (1). In order to package delicate packaging articles (14), such as, for example, fruit, carefully in net bags, provision is made for the net, previously closed at its front end, to be stretched out essentially horizontally counter to the effect of a net brake (17) by extendable tensioning arms (15), before the packaging articles (14) are thrown into the net (2, 16) by the conveyor band (12). The packaging articles (14) which have sprung off from the tensioned net (16) then come to rest gently on a depository (20). So that they need not be thrown far when they are thrown off horizontally into the net (16) and so that they do not fall onto a clip head (18) serving as a retaining device when the net is tautened around the packaging articles (14), the pipe (1) is movable in the longitudinal direction over the clip head. <IMAGE>
