PURPOSE:To improve the output performance by making grooves of a reaction gas flow pathway be continuous, installing the grooves in the way one groove covers the whole surface where a separator contacts with an electrode, and setting the surface area of the grooves to be within a specified surface area value range of the main surface. CONSTITUTION:Regarding a fuel cell using an ion exchange membrane 1 as an electrolyte, continuous grooves are installed in the main surface area of a separator 3. The length of one groove from a gas inlet to an outlet is at least the outer circumference length of the main surface area and the total surface area of the opened upper faces of the grooves is set to be 30-70% of the surface area of the main surface. If it is less than 30%, the reaction gas supply to the gas diffusion electrode 2 part which contacts with the part except the grooves of the separator is deficient and output voltage lowers. Also if it is more over than 70%, the function as a collector, which is another function of the separator 3, is lowered, resulting in low performance. |
