Escape device making it possible to leave a building in the event of an emergency, comprising a first part which is designed to be mounted in a fixed position in a room in the building; a second part which is movably coupled to the first part and can be moved between an at-rest position, in which the second part is located close to or in the first part, and an operating position, in which the second part is in a stable position at a distance from the first part. In the operating position, a free end of the second part reaches outside the building. A pulley is mounted at or close to the free end of the second part, over which pulley a cable is guided, which pulley can be unwound from a reel or winch and at free end extends beyond the pulley. <IMAGE>
