PURPOSE: To obtain a formed nickel catalyst effective for fixed bed hydrogenation of fatty materials by mixing nickel with a clay mineral binder by a specified ratio and forming it. CONSTITUTION: This catalyst comprises about 10-50 wt.% Ni and about 3-30 wt.% at least one clay mineral binder (for example; kaolin group), or about 25-45 wt.% Ni, about 25-45 wt.% silica, about 1-10 wt.% alumina and about 5-20 wt.% at least one clay mineral binder. As a result, the formed nickel catalyst is effective for fixed bed hydrogenation of fatty materials such as fatty acids and their esters. |
