PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for operations such as cylinder replacement and to purge combustible gas without depending on manual work by providing an inert gas generator or the like for varying the amount of generated inert gas according to gas pressure within a tank. CONSTITUTION:A nitrogen gas generator 8 is so designed that the amount of nitrogen gas generated therefrom is varied depending on gas pressure within a nitrogen tank 6. A switch 10 is an ON/OFF switch for operating and stopping the generator 8 and is operated in response to a command from a controller 11. When gas pressure within the tank 6 becomes lower than a constant value, for example, the generator 8 is turned on to generate nitrogen gas, whereas when the gas pressure is above the constant value there is no need to generate nitrogen gas and so the generator is turned off. Oxygen retained in a cathode 2c can be purged by use of the nitrogen gas supplied via a valve 7 and a passage F. The need for troublesome operations such as replacing the tank 6 is therefore eliminated, so combustible gas can be purged very easily. |
