A light distributing unit has a lighting tube (1) set into a reflector (2) that directs the light downwards and onto the surface of a light conducting disc (3). On either side foils (5, 6) provide a uniform distribution of light that can be directed onto panels (7, 8).The light distributing material (4) can contain reflecting particles, air bubbles, coloured particles or fluorescent particles.
