A composite biotic implant having improved bio-affinity and high durability in the living body is provided. Ceramic particles are embedded in a metal substrate to form an embedment layer wherein the particles are received in recesses in the substrate. In a cross section of the embedment layer, at least 5% of the recesses satisfy A < B wherein A is the distance between opposed ends of the outside edge of the recess, and B is the maximum diameter of the ceramic particle. Alternatively or additionally, at least 5% of the recesses satisfy that at least one end of the outside edge of the recess has an included angle theta of less than 90 DEG . <IMAGE>
