The device (1) comprises an inner first tube (2) and an outer second tube (3 which can be axially adjusted relative thereto, as well as spreading elements (14) which can be deflected radially and resiliently relative to the longitudinal axis of the device for retention of the stent (23), it being possible for the spreading elements (11) to be made to rest against the stent (23) on displacement of the second tube (3) in one direction. The proximal and distal ends of the spreading elements (14) are each fastened on a ring (13) and fixed thereto relative to their radial distance from the longitudinal axis of the device. By displacing the second tube (3) which acts upon one of the rings (13), the distance between the rings (13) can be varied. On reduction of this distance, the spreading elements (14) can be deformed with formation of arches which are directed outwards and can be made to rest non-positively against the inner circumference of the stent (23).
