Simple gripper for grasping supported object

The gripper has two opposed jaws (14) which are moveable along the guide surfaces (16) of the gripper body (12). A system of guide rods and guide pins ensures that the jaws remain aligned and retained in the body.The guide surfaces (16) are inclined to create a wedge space opening towards the object to be grasped. When the gripper is lowered over the object, the jaws first rest on the supporting surface. As the gripper is further lowered, the jaws are forced into the gripper body and close onto the object, which can then be moved about on the supporting surface. The jaws are preloaded open by coil springs.
