PURPOSE:To provide a high-strength aluminum titanate material having stabilized strength and improved dimensional accuracy and a method for producing the material. CONSTITUTION:An anatase type titanium oxide is heated and converted into a rutile type titanium oxide, which is then pulverized to prepare rutile raw material powder. The obtained rutile raw material powder is mixed with raw material powder of aluminum oxide containing <=0.1wt.% sodium expressed in terms of sodium oxide. Talc and agalmatolite as additives are then added thereto to prepare a slurry. A peptizer is subsequently added and mixed with the obtained slurry to prepare a slip, which is then cast into a forming mold to prepare a compact. The resultant compact is subsequently dried and burned to prepare the objective burned compact. |
