PURPOSE:To provide a ferromagnetic metal powder having a superior shelf life and magnetic properties, and to provide a magnetic recording medium having a superior shelf life, a high output, high density recording capability and a considerably superior traveling durability. CONSTITUTION:In a ferromagnetic metal powder including iron as a main body, alphaF accounts for 57-81wt.%, and FeO accounts for 12-27wt.%, and Fe2O3 account or 6-28wt.% relative to the total amount of alphaFe, FeO and Fe2O3 in the ferromagnetic metal powder. In a magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer that is laid on a non-magnetic support and includes a ferromagnetic powder and a binding material as a main body, the ferromagnetic powder is the magnetic recording medium. |
