Deposit of liquid or paste e.g. ink onto sheet of paper

The method of deposit involves passing a sheet of paper (40) beneath a rotating drum. The drum has a matrix of holes distributed over its surface and passing through its wall. Ink or paste is transferred to the rotating drum then to the paper.The drum passes a station (20) that deposits a liquid or paste that fills every hole along the drum surface as it passes. Immediately above the point where the drum wall faces the paper there is a head(9) that uses air jets from a row of controllable fine nozzles to selectively eject the liquid or paste from some of the holes onto the paper. This is computer controlled on a line by line basis to produce the required matrix patterns to form characters or images. The ink or paste is then dried by a stream of hot air (45).
