The artificial knee prosthesis consists of a tibial plate (1), a femoral component (11) and an intermediate element (2) fitted movably between the two to permit a certain degree of rotation. The upper face of the tibial plate has a recess (6) with a semi-spherical surface, and the underside of the intermediate element has a convex surface of matching shape to permit a relative rotary motion of the two components.In a variant of the design the tibial plate can have two concave recesses, and the intermediate element be made in two sections, each fitting into one of the recesses. The curved recess in the tibial plate has a radius of between 80 and 120 mm, and the upper surface of the intermediate element has recesses of described by radii of between 30 and 50 mm, and pref. 40 mm.
